A Scream in the Dark
Colonel Khan is the eye of the storm.
A legend of impeccable bearing and lethal precision, he uses razor-sharp intellect and refined cultural intuition as his primary investigative tools. He doesn’t just find clues; he commands the truth.
What begins as a simple favor for an acquaintance quickly spirals into a night of high-stakes intrigue. When a billionaire tech-mogul collapses at a glittering Magnificent Mile gala, the city’s elite are left in shock. That same night, on the other side of town, a young woman is found murdered in a dilapidated Devon Avenue apartment.
The connection? An enigmatic silver Falcon Feather pendant.
Moving with the lethal grace of a tiger, Khan springs into action, following a trail that sees him dissecting a world of neighborhood gossip, sterile autopsy rooms, and Gold Coast greed. His pursuit eventually leads to a snow-locked Lake Geneva mansion, where a final confrontation will force the chilling truth to the surface.
Experience an adventure that delights the senses. Where chai and samosas arrive alongside witty banter and pulse-quickening danger, propelling a mystery that twists to a soundtrack of Jazz basslines and soulful strains of Qawwali you can feel in your bones, and savor on every page. A journey that begins with the warmth of tradition and ends with the sharp, cold clarity of justice.
The Author
M.Q. Qureshi is a builder of new worlds-both digital and literary. As a technology executive, he has spent his career launching startups and shaping the future of autonomous mobility. But as a storyteller, his roots are deeply grounded in the past.
Born in Kenya and raised across East and Southern Africa, MQ's worldview was forged in British schools and on travels that have spanned from the markets of Jerusalem to the coast of Cartagena. This global upbringing inspired him to revive the aesthetic of the "gentleman traveler"-a vision fully realized in the character of Colonel Khan.
The Colonel's debut was over a decade in the making, finally written during an extremely difficult chapter in MQ's life. He often remarks that when the days were darkest, the joy he found on the page, and in the discipline of bringing this mystery to life, led to him inadvertently becoming the first person Colonel Khan saved.
MQ resides in the northern suburbs of Chicago with his wife, Aasma, and their two children, Zoya and Deen.
